Yesterday I photographed Sal Kibler at the Hurt Building in downtown Atlanta for today’s issue of The New York Times. Due to the turnaround time needed, it was a quick 10-minute portrait but a very interesting story in medical news. Long standing advice on mammograms was labeled irrelevant with the announcement by the United States Preventive Services Task Force that women without unusual cancer risks should not begin regular screening for breast cancer until age 50. Sal Kibler, 55, who has been getting mammograms every year and performing self-checks since age 40, had a mammogram this week. Kibler said she would continue to do so every year.
