Mexico

Something keeps pulling me back to Latin America. My first trip was to Costa Rica when I was 15 (my mother promised the trip because I’d wanted to see a rain forest since I was little). Then Belize, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and a quick trip to Mexico early this summer. Another much longer trip to Central Mexico in early November just reminded me of all the unique things that appeal to me so much: the rich history and art and culture and kindness everywhere. (All of which I find lacking in the southern US–you have to go looking for each.) Now, I’m anxious to head back. Enjoy:Mexio02

Love your use of color! Especially like the one of the city through the window.

Kendrick, if dog is the genus, than roof-dog is the species? Do you think it would be possible to bring some roof-dogs back to the states on your next trip? This is a phenomena that seems to have a special place south of the border. Lovely stuff, BTW. -M

Your work speaks to the diversity and drama and magic the Mexico in so many beautiful ways. I especially love the pinwheels, the ladies in rainbow colors, the lights in the plaza and the mariachis!Silhoettes are wonderful too.

thank you, Jenny. i never thought i was much of a color shooter until i recently converted an essay to black and white and a photog friend told me monochrome wasn’t how i saw the world. i’d never thought of it that way, but all the vivid colors in latin america always makes coming home feel a little dull. i’d like a bright blue house with hot pink flowers, please.

Sarah, thanks for the kind words and for telling me your faves. i’m gonna have to narrow down my photos from this trip soon and it’s always an ongoing debate in my head about which photos i like the most and why.

Slaby, i’m happy to keep dogs on roofs as long as cats stay in my lap. i saw a blog called dogs on roofs when i was looking up day of the dead info.

Dunno, Kendrick. Roof-cats sounds like the premise for some good, quality physical humor. Assuming they behave more like the predators they all secretly want to be. Just walk under the eve and you’re probably safe.
