One of my early stops on this sociological tour took me to Helen, Ga., a quaint little mountain town in North Georgia’s Appalachian Mountains masquerading as a German village.  The place is a pleasant little dichotomy of traditional recreations like Hofer’s, a German bakery and cafe, and gimmicky souvenir shops filled with typical mountain town collectibles.  While it may border on a caricature of itself, the love and care with which it was founded shines through.  It’s that same dichotomy of reality and fantasy sharing a moment together in space and time that interests me most and excites me about documenting more of these little oasis.  To read more about The Fourth Wall, check out the description on my first post here, or check out another stop along the way here.
