The first week of July after staying for a few days in Mississippi, I meandered down to Houma, Louisiana where I was planning to document the annual egg collection with the folks at Daneco Alligator Farm. Long story short, I struck out when the weather turned against us, forcing the folks gathering the eggs to scramble all their resources in an attempt to collect as many eggs as possible before they drowned in the rising water. I still made a few new images, which I will share below, but also took the opportunity to get LUCEO Partner Mike Davis to do an edit of this body of work, looking over images from the very beginning. As usual, he found photographs that had slipped through the cracks, opening up a whole new way of looking at the story for me. The latest edit is available for viewing on my portfolio page, but here are a few of my favorites that he found hiding in the outtakes, followed by several new images from my most recent trip to Louisiana.

Some images from my most recent visit.

As I left Houma, two days early, I was compelled to stop and make a photograph of the blue gorilla at the frozen roadside daiquiri shop and his temptress neighbor who always welcome me as I pull into town. Oh, Louisiana.

Has been a great set of images, but amazing what a new set of eyes can do for an edit. the skinned alligators is definitely a bit a disturbing photo, but necessary for the story. And sometimes, the most disturbing photos can be the most thought provoking and powerful
