Shortly after returning from the Gulf Oil Spill, I was approached by Eric Maierson and A.J. Maclean of MediaStorm regarding the use of about a dozen images in MediaStorm’s Multimedia Presentation of the Gulf Oil Spill Commission’s Findings and Recommendations. Ultimately, MediaStorm helped broker the sale of 17 images for inclusion in the piece for the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling. The images serve to support MediaStorm’s express goal of creating a website that offers “an interactive and multimedia presentation of the report that describes the causes of the Deepwater Horizon spill, its immediate aftermath, and long term fallout.” The resulting production serves to distill a fairly complex issue into bite-sized components that allow a non-scientific viewer the ability to grasp the bigger concepts presented by the spill. The final site accomplishes exactly that and is a real testament to the skills of its producers. Kudos to MediaStorm.
