72,306 —Contextualizing a Year of Overdose Deaths in the United States

In 2017, 72,306 people died from drug overdoses.  That number eclipses all previous overdose numbers, leaving more dead that gunshots and automobile accidents —combined.  At this rate, 198 people die each day, one person every seven minutes and 19 seconds.  Sadly, overdoses are preventable.  To help illustrate the scope of the crisis —and to educate people about practical, clinically sound approaches to curbing its impact —Luceo created an exhibition to engage people in not only the data behind the crisis, but also its human toll.

90,000 people visited the installation at the 2018 Photoville under the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.  The exhibition is currently being adapted into a modular, traveling piece.
