Stations of the Crossing

Drawing from the experiences of immigrants crossing the southern border of the United States, Luceo created a series of images re-envisioning their story in a manner that pays homage to the religious iconography of the Stations of the Cross. Current United States policy intentionally forces immigrants to traverse the vast, treacherous interior deserts in a manner that costs hundreds of lives annually. This work underscores human rights concerns with the increasingly harsh and inhumane immigration policies espoused under the Trump administration. The series tells a process-based story of a person undertaking the difficult crossing, beginning at their departure from their family and ending with their resettlement in the United States. Stations of the Crossing was presented at Photoville, transforming the interior of a shipping container into a church-like environment to showcase the work in situ.
