LUCEO

72,306 —Contextualizing a Year of Overdose Deaths in the United States

Background

IIn 2017, 72,306 people died from drug overdoses. This eclipsed all previous overdose numbers, leaving more dead than gunshots and automobile accidents —combined. On average, 198 people died from overdose each day in 2017, or one person every seven minutes and 19 seconds. Sadly, overdoses are preventable. To help illustrate the scope of the crisis —and to educate people about practical, clinically sound approaches to curbing its impact —Luceo created an exhibition to engage people with not only the data behind the crisis, but also its human toll.

Results

90,000 people visited the installation at the 2018 Photoville under the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.  The exhibition is currently being adapted into a modular, traveling piece.
